THE GOOD NEWS STORY

For God so loved the world, that he gave his

only Son, that whoever believes in him

should not perish but have eternal life.” ¹

CREATION

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. ²

HUMANITY

So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them. ³

SEPARATION

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife

hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man

and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because

I was naked, and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which

I commanded you not to eat?”

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out

his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live for ever—

” therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden… ⁴

RECONCILIATION

PROMISE OF JESUS (ca 700 BC)

For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁵

COMING OF JESUS (2000 years ago)

“She [Mary] will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). ⁶

GOOD NEWS (by JESUS)

Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel [=good news] of God, and saying, “The time

is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” ⁷

GOOD NEWS IN A NUTSHELL (by the Apostle Paul)

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,

that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas,

then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time... ⁸

INVITATION (from JESUS)

“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” ⁹
